• You want Luxor Temple and Luxor railway station within a short walk of your room.
• You plan to use the public ferry, private boats or the bridge to cross to the West Bank, all of which leave from this side.
• You would rather be in the market and the lanes around it in the evening than in a quiet property away from the centre.
• You are treating the room as a base for the temples and the station rather than as a retreat.

• You want a river view from the room: stay on Corniche al-Nil, where the Nile is the frontage.
• You want quiet and a slower pace: look at Al-Awameyah, the next area along.
• You would rather wake up close to the West Bank sites: base at Al-Qurna or New Qurna and cross only when you need the east bank.
• You want the temples and the station without city noise and traffic around the core: choose a property on the Corniche instead.

Where to sleep in Luxor City Center

The core has the east bank's densest cluster of hotels, from basic rooms near the station to larger properties within walking distance of Luxor Temple.

Before you book: a room sold as central can face a busy road, so ask whether it looks onto the street or an inner courtyard, and get the answer in writing. Measure the walk to the Corniche and Luxor Temple on a map rather than trusting the word 'central', and note whether it crosses the railway line or a busy junction. If a Nile view is the point of the trip, look at Corniche al-Nil instead: central rooms mostly look onto streets.
