Was Sie in Valley of the Kings erwartet
For roughly five hundred years, from Thutmose I to Ramesses XI, the pharaohs of the New Kingdom were buried in this narrow desert valley on the west bank of the Nile, chosen because a pyramid-shaped peak called al-Qurn dominates it naturally. Sixty-three tombs have been discovered so far, ranging from single-chamber pits to KV5, a labyrinth of over 120 rooms cut for the sons of Ramesses II. The valley remains active: Egyptian and foreign missions dig every winter, and new corridors are still being found.
The standard ticket admits you to any three tombs from a rotating open list, usually including Ramesses IV (KV2, wide and colourful), Ramesses IX (KV6) and Merenptah (KV8). Three tombs require separate premium tickets: Tutankhamun (KV62, containing the mummy itself, $6 extra), Seti I (KV17, the longest and most beautifully decorated, $19 extra) and Ramesses V/VI (KV9, with astronomical ceilings, $4 extra). The visitor centre has a good scale model of the wadi. A little tuk-tuk train ($1) runs from the ticket office to the tomb cluster.
Go early — 6:00 opening in winter is a real gift, and the first hour is the coolest and quietest before the Nile cruise groups arrive by 8:30. Photography inside tombs costs $6 extra per tomb (Tutankhamun and Seti I forbid photography regardless). Combine with Hatshepsut and Medinet Habu in one long West Bank morning; hire a taxi for the day ($30-45) rather than site-by-site. Bring water, a hat and sturdy shoes — the descents are steep.

Es gibt keine öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel bis hierher. Überqueren Sie den Nil mit der lokalen Fähre ($0,50), dann 20 min mit dem Taxi zur Stätte ($8-12 hin und zurück mit Wartezeit). Oder schließen Sie sich einer vom Hotel organisierten Westufer-Tour für $25-40 an.
